It started when Miracle Whip aired a new ad campaign trying to make Miracle Whip look cool and edgy, with the taglines like "we will not tone it down" and "don't be so mayo", and Colbert responded with a parody of the commercial that advertised generic mayonaisse:

Tonight's episode is going to be very interesting. And even though I think Miracle Whip sucks, kudos to them for taking advantage of the situation in a way that will certainly get them a lot of attention.
