Stephen Colbert's Cheating Death segments have been hilarious, and I think there's been 4 so far. Apparently these clips appear on Comedy Central's Motherload website, but only for a limited time. I couldn't find the Colgate/Alli one anymore, so I've uploaded it here. That's right, it's a Cheating Death symbii exclusive!
I think the conclusion reached in the second article is stupid. Namely, "If consumers had really been listening to the sober realities of the drug, sales would doubtless be far more modest."
Um, nice assumption, but maybe people are aware of how it works and the need to diet/exercise and are still willing to make the effort? I don't see why it's automatically assumed that sales have to be less if people fully understand what the pill is going to do (both good and bad). There's still plenty of people that are trying to lose weight and something that helps (and in fact, something that doesn't claim to be a magic pill) is going to be enticing to many of them.
Also, apparently Dave doesn't like to hit reply :)
