Sunday morning we go to check on the car at 11am and it's gone. Ok, that was the risk of parking there. Shitty of course, but whatever. So I get my car later in the day from Chicago's auto pound and find a ticket on it, because of course the $160 towing charge wasn't enough - they had to fine me some more. The ticket is for parking by a hydrant, and carries a $100 fine. Things go from shitty to extra shitty. However, I then realize there's actually 2 tickets, given within 20 minutes of each other (at 10 and 10:20am), both with the $100 fine! So $360 total for parking there. That's bullshit on a stick. Of course now I'm kicking myself for not taking the parking garage option, not trying to move the car later Saturday night, and not waking up and checking on the car sooner on Sunday.
The Chicago Police department blows goats. Next time maybe the $25 parking garage won't seem so bad. Douchebags.
Update (12/20/05): I paid one ticket and contested the other - called a couple of weeks before the end of December and was told I will hear the result in July. How does it take 7 months to look at two tickets (I had to provide a copy of both) and go, "Hmmm...within 20 minutes for the same offense...the second ticket is waived."
Update 2 (2/14/06): Nearly a full 2 months after I contested the second ticket I got a letter saying the second ticket was waived because the supporting evidence for my claim that the second ticket was "factually inconsistent" was approved. Fantastic. Guess I only hate the Chicago Police times 2 now.
