ABC set to stream full HD episodes for free Internet TV
I just wish ABC had better shows because then this would be pretty awesome news. They just released an internet episode player that can stream you full episodes in HD. Hopefully, the other networks will follow suit. I already loved the fact that if I missed an episode of 24 or The Office I could watch it online last season as they started putting them online. To have them in HD would be amazing.

ABC Online Episode Player
Shows that are available on the ABC player (it's not clear if all will be in HD):
According to Jim, American Inventor, The Bronx is Burning, Brothers and Sisters, Day Break, Desperate Housewives, Ex-Wives Club, Grey's Anatomy, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Knights of Prosperity, Lost, Men In Trees, The Next Best Thing, GH Night Shift, October Road, Shaq's Big Challenge, Six Degrees, Traveler, Ugly Betty, Voicemail, What About Brian

If this trend keeps up, DVRs and cable companies are going to need to watch out. If you can get whatever shows you want in HD online for free, what's the reason to keep subscribing to cable? Granted some people like being able to flip through the channels and see what's on without planning it ahead of time. But between the networks doing this, and companies like Joost popping up (I was just watching some episodes of NewsRadio on it last night), it's getting easier and easier to get all kinds of free content. And when the networks take part, you'll get fresh content too (most of the stuff on Joost is older and limited...there's only 6 or 7 total episodes out of NewsRadio's 97-episode catalog). The only problem I've noticed is the networks only tend to keep the episodes up for a week, and then the following week they replace it with a new episode. So there's no way to go back and watch older seasons, which is disappointing.

I don't know what ABC is going to do, but I know that I can't always watch stuff put online for free.

To make my point, I'm first going to have to make a confession. I watch Pirate Master. There, I said it. Apparently the ratings sucked (The show isn't that much better), so CBS decided to stop airing the show and put them all online. When I went to watch them, I first saw a commercial, then a screen saying that I couldn't watch the show from outside of the US, then another commercial, then the screen saying that I have to be in the US, and back and forth a few times. So I could watch the commericials, but not the show. Needless to say, I was pissed. Not only at CBS, but myself for really wanting to see the end of the show, but then again at myself for getting pissed in the first place. Did that make sense?

Yeah, you should be pissed at yourself. Though I guess to be fair you didn't get weeks of commercials previewing what a piece of crap that show looked like it would be.

But a lot of people have complained about the regional issue (again now that ABC has released the player for the US only), saying why should that be? The internet is available to everyone.

At any rate, if you poke around you can find that a lot of people outside the US are using proxies to make it look like they are accessing the site from the US. Likewise, a bunch of people in the States were complaining about being unable to access BBC shows.

I haven't looked into it so I can't make any recommendations, but I have no doubt there's plenty of chatter about what proxies work and don't work for various video services, so maybe you'll find something useful that way. The problem is that usually a proxy is used for webpage content that is text and images, not for streaming video which is much more complex to implement.
